Blogger of the Year 2012 Nomination? Wow…

I’ve just been notified by Tyson over at Head In A Vice that he has nominated me (or more accurately my blog) for “Blog of the Year 2012” award. *again, just hear announcer Gary Owens (Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In) saying the words quoted.*

Wow.

This has to be my favourite award nomination. Although it has a bittersweet tang to it, because Tyson also nominated Marilyn over at Serendipity and John over at WRITTEN IN BLOOD which are two of the nominees I would have chosen. Cue face palm.

I should quickly explain that the  nomination is my favourite not because of the award itself – which is grand, don’t get me wrong here – but because the “penalty” for accepting the award is that you have to pass it on to three more bloggers who deserve it. When I read the rules that Tyson provided I was surprised and pleased. I have explained before that I am basically a lazy person, hence the surprise and elation.

“What?” I asked myself. “No 50 interesting and fascinating facts about moi? No asking 50 interesting and fascinating questions of the 50 nominees you’ve chosen? And most important of all, no contacting 50 bloggers to let them know I’ve nominated them?” I did a little Snoopy happy dance (very little, I did just have a heart attack you know) and then sat and pondered who I could possibly chose.

I then realised that I could also nominate Marilyn and John as Tyson did. I did notice, when I re-read his nominating post, that several folks had nominated him for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Brilliant! Of course I would say that as I was one of the folks who nominated Tyson.

That still left the question of who should I nominate for the third and final nominee? As I poured the first cup of coffee down my parched throat, it came to me, Andy! Problem solved.

So in a nutshell, here are my three nominees for Blog of the Year 2012 – in no particular order:

andywatchesmovies

Serendipity

WRITTEN IN BLOOD

So there you have it. Of course I now have guilt issues about all the great bloggers I did not nominate. As Rex says in Toy Story, “Now I have guilt!” But in the nomination game someone is always left out, it is the nature of the beast. But my fellow bloggers, I will come back for you. Oh yes, sooner or later I’ll get another award and I’ll try to include those of you I’ve had to abandon in the past. Like Arnie in The Terminator or MacArthur in the Philippines, “I’ll be back.”

I am not new to guilt at any rate. I always feel very guilty when I don’t check the blogs I follow as often as I feel I should – daily, if I’m being honest, I write almost daily and should read daily as well – and I therefore don’t ‘like’ or comment enough either. I am pretty crap at admin to be honest and reading falls under admin. Not an excuse, friends and neighbours, just a fact. I am trying to do better.

So I’ll hang my head in shame at my poor admin skill and promise to do better in future.

Back to the award!

So guys, you’ve been nominated (a couple of you at least twice) so it’s your turn to enjoy this non-labour intensive award. Oh and Andy? I know you are on vacation dude so I’ll expect to hear from you a lot later about the award nomination.

In the spirit of the season, I’ll close by humming Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer through my left nostril as I rap out Jingle Bells with my right index finger. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all.

While performing the above medley, I realised that I had not profusely thanked Tyson for his nomination, I mention it but I don’t actually thank him. So in an effort to rectify this horrendous faux pa I will thank him, “Thank you Tyson, very much,” and link to his site once more. And yes I have re-edited this “on-the-fly,” Mea Culpa!

I’ve Been Given the Beautiful Blogger Award! Wow

Just when I thought that my week could not possibly get any better, it did! The kind and generous (and vastly entertaining blogger) Marilyn over at Serendipity (who is not only a voracious blogger, but who has the best site name ever.) started my rather bleary eyed morning with a note of praise and an award.

The Beautiful Blogger Award is another of those Blogging awards that is designed to help bloggers let the community learn more about their site and the blogger who feeds it. *I have to refer to it as “feed” because I don’t know about you, but my site is a starving creature who demands that I feed it on a regular basis. If I don’t uphold my end of the bargain, it invades my sleep and nags me constantly until I do.*

So before I go any further I have to firstly thank the lovely blogger who nominated me for this lovely award and provide a link back to her blog. Serendipity aka Teepee12 aka Marilyn, writes well, steadily, constantly and entertainingly. She never fails to make me smile, think, question and chuckle. Her writing is erudite and refreshing. Please check out the link and read her blog posts. They will make your day.

As with any of these awards there are a few rules that must be adhered to. I do have to say that as far as rules go, this one is pretty much pain-free. I’ve done what I always do when presented with something new, I’ve gone back and read every ‘related’ link to see how this all works.

It looks like you can do the “seven things you don’t know about me” list if you want and you can then pass on seven questions for your nominees to answer. I will have to say that the ‘chain letter’ feel of this always make me feel slightly pained.

Why?

Well, I feel like I’m intruding to a small degree and more importantly, I’m afraid that if I make the award process too labour intensive that folks won’t receive the award in the spirit that its given.

So, after a very long winded dissertation about the rules, I am opting to not include seven more things you didn’t know about me.

Hey! You in the back! No giggling! As for the rest of you, I can almost feel the collective sigh of relief. Without further ado, I’ll list the, somewhat, shorter rules.

  • Copy the Beautiful Blogger Award logo and place it in your post.
  • Thank the person who nominated you and create a link back to their blog.
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers for their own Beautiful Blogger Award.

The first two items I’ve taken care of in my own long winded fashion. Now here is the part I really dread. I follow a lot of bloggers, it is my habit to follow anyone back who follows me. It’s kind of like the ‘misery loves company’ rule but in reverse. I feel that if someone has take the time and effort to follow me, the least I can do is follow back.

Because of that practise, I’ve gotten acquainted with quite a few blogs and the writers who power them. So I now have to winnow out seven to pass the award to. I would tear my hair and rend my clothes in frustration, but my hair is too thin to even think of tearing, the rending of clothes would leave my wardrobe short a few items that I can ill afford to replace. I will have to do a bit of a lottery system of choice.

I will apologise, in advance, for ‘choosing you’ and ‘not choosing you’ in that order. Now that I am firmly straddled on the fence (and nervously looking out for splinters) here are my seven nominees:

1. Head In A Vice Tyson is a great guy and one of the busiest bloggers I know. He does great reviews and Desert Island Films.

2. jpfmovies J P is another great guy who does some brill reviews and thoughts on movies.

3. DeLeDesserts is a recent addition to my list of follows. The clue is in the title. Desserts, natch! Check it out.

4.  tryingtowriteit is another recent addition and it’s a brilliant site. A lovely writing style awaits you.

5. Popcorn Dinner I can’t do a nomination and not include Janet over a Popcorn Dinner. She’s fab!

6.AndyWatchesMovies Another great guy and prolific blogger. Check him out, it’s worth the trip.

7. shesinthesky I have to add Zoe over at shesinthesky. She’s brill as well.

There you have it. My list of seven. Now that I’ve managed to alienate everyone else that follows me, I can only apologise. I did use the lottery system for everyone listed above, except for two…well, three. These folks all comment regularly and helpfully. They’ve also been a source of support since I’ve been in the WordPress community.

I now have to notify the folks that I’ve nominated and I’ll be done. Thanks again Marilyn aka Serendipity! You are a star!

Really, It’s an Honour To Be Nominated…

I woke up this morning and did what I always do, I rushed down to my laptop to see how many views I’d gotten whilst in the land of Nod.

*Sad, I know, but such is the life I lead.*

I found out that John, fellow blogger and ‘followee’ had nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. After scraping the sleep from my eyes, I shot back a quick comment of thanks. I then read his latest post,  Another Award and I Can Still Keep My Humility and realised that this was going to require a little ‘work’ on my part.

So making a very strong coffee I decided, between sips, to still be honoured by the nomination, despite the fact that it required labour and (God, the irony) thinking.

So, firstly I have to thank John for the nomination *bit of explanation required here, every time I hear the phrase ‘nominated for’ I think of the Academy Awards* and then following the rules I have to nominate ten more Bloggers and link to their sites.

**Is it just me or is this starting to feel like a ‘chain’ nomination??**

1. Creature with the Atom Brain

2. Ghost Cities

3. Myteensavers’s Blog

4. 3teensmom

5. True Mister Six

6. Bucket List Publications

7. J.P.’s I’m Outta Here Movie Thoughts

8. while ( aboutMe < Mathf.Infinity ) { … }

9.  Bridgette Gallagher

10. Renard Moreau

Wow, that was tough. I like all the Bloggers that I follow and it was really difficult to narrow the list to just ten. Sorry, if you got missed! Okay, checking my ‘must-do’ list…Right here is the award:

Of course next up is the all important thank you to John of  jmount43  with a link back to his site. Thanks, John! Seriously, I get stupidly pleased, excited and happy if I am ever nominated for anything, dude, you’ve made my day.

Now for the rules part:

1. In a post on your blog, nominate 10 fellow bloggers for The Versatile Blogger Award; and link to them.

2. In the same post, add the Versatile Blogger Award.

3. In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog.

4. In the same post, share 10 completely random pieces of information about yourself.

5. In the same post, include this set of rules.

6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs.

Last and definitely least I have to inform you,  friends and neighbours, of ten things about me:

1. I have a natural tendency to be a smart-ass.

2. My favourite meal is foot, it must be because I’m constantly shoving the damn thing in my mouth.

3. I have been married twice…and divorced twice.

4. I once auditioned for Leon Vitali, Stanley Kubrik’s right hand man for the part played eventually by Alan Cumming in Eyes Wide Shut.

5. I am addicted to video games and films, both tend to equal lot’s of late nights.

6. I am becoming addicted to Blogging.

7. I have an eighteen inch scar running right up the middle of my back.

8. I always wanted to have “any identifying marks or scars” so #7 helped me out there.

9. I was once addicted to so many pain pills that it took me two years to get off all of them.

10. As a rule, when I am angry, one-liners shoot from my mouth like a verbal machine gun barrage.

And that’s it, except for the, letting my nominees know that I nominated them via comments. Which I will do as soon as this is published!
